Michelle, born and raised in Overland Park, KS, and Steve, from Lee’s Summit met while they were attending Law School at the University of Missouri-Kansas City. Steve was nearing completion of his first semester and Michelle was finishing her third year. It was finals season and finals usually stressed out Michelle so she would often opt to bake, rather than study. Upon completion of her aptly titled “Finals Fudge”, Steve and some of his friends were more than willing to taste test the fudge. From that point, Steve and Michelle began hanging out as friends and then Steve finally mustered the courage to ask her out on a date. Early in the morning of April 5th, 2014, these two went for a hike at James A. Reed Memorial Wildlife Area. Hiking is one of their favorite activities. One of Michelle’s favorite spots in the entire reserve is a bluff that overlooks the creek that runs through the park. Michelle, wanting to be tech-savvy, decided to Instagram a picture from the bluff overlooking the park. Steve, assuming Michelle may want to take this opportunity to take a picture, came prepared with a ring and champagne. While Michelle was taking the picture, Steve dropped to one knee behind her! That brought us to the big day.
These two were so relaxed and joyful on their wedding day. They were surrounded by some of the nicest people. Their bridal part was so much fun and definitely added a lot to the day, both in terms of pageantry and entertainment. Everyone got ready at their hotel and then they had their first look at the Mahaffie. The venue was so gorgeous! It is a museum by day and then seemingly transforms in its entirety to a stunning modern barn wedding venue by night. We took some amazing photos on the ground around the Mahaffie. The two did incredibly well all day. The ceremony was in front of the old Mahaffie House and officiated by a judge that Michelle used to work for. After their ceremony, the “I Do’s” and the kiss, Michelle and Steve rode away as husband and wife on their carriage. At this point, we had a brief window of opportunity to take advantage of the gorgeous sunset and Michelle and Steve absolutely nailed it. I loved the pictures from this part of the day. The reception was picture-perfect, complete with amazing florals from Good Earth Floral. No a single detail was overlooked. They had dessert tables that were adorable with several different cupcake flavors. In addition to this, Michelle baked cookies and gave them out as a wedding favor. How fun is that?! The reception was filled with laughter, dancing and celebrating up until these two left to a sparkler exit. It was an incredible wedding. Michelle and Steve, thank you so much for letting me a part of you day and I hope you enjoy the pictures as much as I enjoyed taking them. Below are my favorites and here is their entire gallery.
